Our Music News Service, Music Beat, has been reporting on the legislation being proposed by State Rep, Sean Garbally, to extend the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA, bus and subway) hours until 2:00 AM on weekends as a win, win solution for the public, and cost cutting measures.
Heated debate continues as hearings on MBTA cut backs are taking place through early March. Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick is exploring the use of the snow removal surplus dollars, due the lack of snow this winter, and moving those funds to the MBTA, avoiding some of the planned cut backs for one year.
Live Music, Hospitality and the entire creative economy will be affected if these cuts take place. So we have a question that needs your Vote.
Would you go out to hear live music in Boston if the T hours were extended to 2:00 AM on Weekends?
So we got a little rain and some folks got some snow. Now we can dust it off and get ready! Its Gonna be one H. E. L. L. of a Weekend! The Grace Kelly Quintet will Jazz it up, Erin Harpe sings the Blues and DJ Joe Bermudez is in the mix.

I am stunned about the news of Whitney Houston’s passing on Saturday. Her voice stands out for me and that is what is memorable to me. All the other hearsay, rumors and news reports in the days and weeks to come mean little to me at all. Whitney Houston’s struggles are matters of her personal life and her music is a gift that will live on for centuries. Her voice filled the BostonGarden as the surprise guest at the Kiss 108 concert in the 80s. Jennifer Hudson’s tribute at the Grammy’s was superb. I cannot think of anyone else who could have honored Whitney Houston so well.
The heading of this blog promises you more and here it is. A good friend of mine introduced me to Natalie Turgeon, a country music singer from New Hampshire. Wait … Don’t scroll down .. She’s really good and can sing, or better yet, she can Sang! Let me do you the favor my friend did for me and introduce Natalie Turgeon to you. Natalie Turgeon is this weeks’ Boston Music Coalitions’Video of The Week.
SOULFUL 16-YEAR-OLD WINS THE MUSIC ON & UP GRAND FINALE SHOWCASE
Submitted by BMCiRepoter: Patricia Duffey President of Music On & Up
Eleven Grand Finale Finalists performed at the Music On & Up—19 and Under Showcase at the Boston Hard Rock Café on February 5, 2011. The Finalists were all MVPs from the 2011 Music On & Up Showcase series which attracted hundreds of applicants in a variety of genres from the New England region and beyond.
Dennis Taylor, a 16-year-old soul-singing sensation from Charlestown, MA with a penchant for classic oldies and a soft spot for Elvis, was the overall winner and scholarship recipient of the Grand Finale. Dennis commanded the sold-out crowd’s attention with a flawless performance of “Me & Mrs. Jones.” In addition to a cash prize/scholarship and professional photo shoot by Andrew Swain, Dennis will be featured in Enterteenment Magazine, Limelight Magazine, Boston Music Coalition website, and on NEBG1’s website and performer showcase. Keep an eye out for him in 2012, as he will also be performing at Greenfest this year on the main stage.
Dennis stepped up on stage ready and from his first note to his last, the Motown crooner had the audience and Hard Rock staff fully connected and moving to the music. As one music professional said, “he needs to keep doing exactly what he is doing and not change one thing”. Off stage, Dennis beams with excitement about performing and loves to chat about his music videos he self produces. His performances are effortless and he hits everyone’s soul as he brings great oldies back to life.
Music On & Up wants young talented performers to succeed in music and gain new confidence with each and every performance! There is so much musical talent out there so they are always finding young talented performers that don’t know what step to take next as they begin their journey in their music career. Music On & Up was formed to bring young performers (under the age of 19) together, provide them resources which will enhance their careers and branding, be a contact for booking organizations, and provide them opportunities for online and talent showcase events. Their mission is to be a selected talent resource for talent placement organizations and music industry professionals for shows, concerts, festivals, charity events and other venues. Young aspiring musicians will benefit from obtaining performance experience, building a resume, and will learn how best to present their music talents. They are committed to keeping music education at the forefront of our communities and support charities that focus on promoting music education programs for young performers.
Music On & Up created the Young Performers Club as a networking forum to learn about performance opportunities, young performer news, and industry advice and direction. Hearing about what other young performers are doing will help motivate and guide aspiring musicians in establishing future goals for their music careers.
The Young Performers Club Facebook Fan page is a portal for communicating performance opportunities throughout the country. The mission is to have the fans benefit from all this knowledge and have it make a difference in their music careers.
This was Music On & Up’s thirteenth Showcase event. Unline Marketing Manager and talent scout, Debbie Scaduto and I, Patricia Duffey, President of Music On & Up, continue to be stunned by the depth of young talent in this region and beyond. Music On & Up is also the producer/founder of Teens Rock America, an all-day teen concert and touring event, which takes place in the summer, and is the Director of the Green Rocker Program.
