A Message from the President: Live Music Needs Your Vote!

By Doug Ruffin
President,
Boston Music Coalition

Our Music News Service, Music Beat, has been reporting on the legislation being proposed by State Rep, Sean Garbally, to extend the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA, bus and subway) hours until 2:00 AM on weekends as a win, win solution for the public, and cost cutting measures.

Heated debate continues as hearings on MBTA cut backs are taking place through early March. Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick is exploring the use of the snow removal surplus dollars, due the lack of snow this winter, and moving those funds to the MBTA, avoiding some of the planned cut backs for one year.

Live Music, Hospitality and the entire creative economy will be affected if these cuts take place. So we have a question that needs your Vote.

Would you go out to hear live music in Boston if the T hours were extended to 2:00 AM on Weekends?
