Phantom Gourmet: The Flavor of Music and BBQ

By Doug Ruffin
President,
Boston Music Coalition

The weekly event listing for all of you who love music as part of your nightlife may remember that I listed the Phantom Gourmet BBQ Beach Party as an event in last weeks Nightlife Nexus article. I don’t just write this stuff, pending my schedule; I often go to the events I list.

I love BBQ. So, thinking the food would trump the music; I went to get my grub on. I was ready for the real deal ribs and chicken. All set and ready, I arrived and started to get down … to the music!  I went Saturday night and caught the Felix Brown Band. One of several artists and bands who played throughout the weekend during the annual phantom Gourmet event held this year at City Hall Plaza.

Saturday was cool and rainy most of the day. As was Friday, as was Sunday. But it cleared up on Saturday night and the music from the Felix Brown Band warmed up the night with a well diverse play list of songs to perform they kept everyone dancing!

Also performing throughout the weekend was, Andy Grammer and Matt Nathanson on Friday. On Sunday, Larry and the Birds performed.

Boston offers a lot of fun choices for party people and Families. When you combine the mix of music and good food, you’re talkin’ about a Phantom Gourmet event.

Automatically Excited About the Pointer Sisters Concert in Boston

By
Doug Ruffin
President,
Boston Music Coalition

WODS radio in Boston offers a Free Summer Concert Series at the hatch shell on the esplanade park area off Boston’s famous Charles River. Last Saturday, WODS presented the first of three scheduled free summer concerts at the Hatch Shell. The first concert offered the Pointer Sisters.

Let me tell you, the Pointer Sisters took it to Chuch! Not, “Church” but an honest to goodness. “Chuch”! This was not a Gospel music concert. But all were able to rise to the strong voices the Pointer Sisters still have. The sweeping harmonies and vocals were so strong and so on pitch, everyone heard every word of every song. The vocals were so strong and harmonies so clear, that the audience cheered as if to rate the vocalists in a music appreciation class.

Say what you will about Boston residence. You know, oldies driven, slow to change, no diversity and a God awful lack of rhythm. Well, it’s 2011 and the Pointer Sisters brought out the best in all the proper and the rest of us not – so – proper Bostonians.

The Pointer Sisters performed all their hits and then some. In addition, the vocalists took a moment to voice winning support for the Boston Bruins. Yes, “we got the cup” But that night, The Pointer Sisters filled the cup with song.

Nightlife Nexus By The Boston Music Coalition

By
Doug Ruffin
President,
Boston Music coalition

A good friend, who is knowledgeable in business, often asks to be known as a DJ first before most anything else. He gave me three key suggestions through the years. First he told me, “Get my damn site up”. The second suggestion he offered? 80% of making it in business is showing up prepared and the third serving of food for thought was to provide a centralized update of club happenings in and around Boston. So, I got together with my team and created Nightlife Nexus to be the center of club happenings.

Once a week, Nightlife Nexus articles will appear hear on the Boston Music Coalition blog. In addition, we have launched our first music show, Nightlife Nexus by the Boston Music Coalition. The show is on is online now. Visit http://www.bostonmusiccoalition.com/ and click on Nightlife Nexus.

Club happenings? Nightlife Nexus by the Boston Music Coalition has got you covered.
